History of Troop 83

 

Troop 83 will be entering its 60^th year of continuous service when it re-charters at the end of December 2010.  As the Troop approaches this milestone, a review of its history appears to be in order.

 

This Troop was first chartered in June 1932 at the Hungarian Reformed Church in Phoenixville.  Meeting at the Church on Tuesday evenings.  The charter was dropped on April 30^th, 1940.

 

The Troop was next chartered in the Exton area on December 1^st, 1943, to be known as a neighborhood patrol.  Meetings were held at the West Whiteland School in Exton.  The charter expired in February of 1945.

 

The present charter was approved on March 31^st, 1951 by the Chester County Council to be sponsored by the Lionville Fire Company.  Meetings were held on Tuesday evenings at the Fire Station.

 

In Approximately 1961 the sponsors name on the charter is changed to Saint Paul’s United Church of Christ.  Records indicate that at this point that there had been 8 Scoutmasters and 8 Eagle Scouts.

 

On the 1979 charter, the name of the sponsoring organization changes again.  This time it changes to one we are all familiar with, The Lionville Community Methodist Church.

 

We have now reached a total of 21 Scoutmasters and the Troop has produced 75 Eagle Scouts. We also have been blessed to have the same caring sponsor for the past 31 years.

 

The present Scouts, Scout Leaders, and Troop Committee members would like to extend their appreciation to the Congregation of The Lionville Community Methodist Church for sponsoring and supporting this Troop for the past 31 years, and hope to continue our association far into the future.
