The Order of the Arrow was founded by E. Urner Goodman in 1915 to “recognize those campers—Scouts and Scouters—who best exemplify the scout Oath and Law in their daily lives and by such recognition cause other campers to conduct themselves in such manner as to warrant recognition.” Members of the OA help to prepare Camp Horseshoe for the winter, and for use in the summer. Every year at summer camp, both members and non-members vote on members from their troop for the Order of the Arrow. Then, on Saturday night, the scouts who were selected by their peers are recognized in the Tap-out ceremony. These scouts will later have to go through the Ordeal to become full-members of the OA.
